Independence Day

The Independence Day was a quite interesting experience. I joined the studentmarch to Senatintori and listened to the speeches. For me as German it was strange to see all the burning torches, people with their hats and the patriotic speeches. There, in the dark, it all seemed a bit spooky, like greets from the history-books. Most Germans I spoke with felt that way. It shouldn´t be misunderstood as a critic of something traditional Finnish, it´s just so different from the historical awareness I grew up with.

Later we were watching of course Tarja shaking a lot of hands – most of the dresses – hmm, well it´s always a matter of personal taste, but still…
